Electra changed from PVC/PVC to XLPE/PVC (10mm² and above) some years ago due to the larger range of susceptible temperatures with XLPE due to its thermoset material, while PVC is a thermoplastic. This means that the molecules in XLPE are chemically bonded together and are more durable, contributing to the overall stability of the cable when faced with higher temperature situations.
Also, in this range being used for electrical power distribution, armoured cable or steel wire armoured cable (SWA) is a hard-wearing power cable designed for the supply of mains electricity. Such a cable is used commonly for 1kV (low voltage) and includes several other armoured electrical cables / solutions that also are commonly included with the design of 11kV and Medium Voltage applications.

(Electrical Equipment Safety Scheme) was suddenly introduced by the government with minimal warning. Electra swapped stock over (as per the new scope defining Building Wires up to and including 16mm² under the E.E.S.S.), and allowed electrical wholesalers to continue trading at minimal disruption at a cost to Electra of many millions of dollars.
Electra Cables is also a registered “Responsible Supplier” with E.R.A.C. (Electrical Regulatory Authorities Council), and to which all compliant certifications can easily be found via a public search on the E.R.A.C. website.
